macOS Monterey has some radical new features added to it this time around, with some of them listed here:

  • Universal Control: With Universal control you can control multiple Mac and iPad devices with a single pair of keyboard and mice. It works seamlessly and is very responsive. It works between a MacBook and an iPad, an iMac and an iPad, and even between an iMac and a MacBook! It lets users share files between devices, barring you own them already, in a much easier manner.

  • AirPlay to Mac: You can now Airplay Movies, Shows and even blast Music from your iPhone on your Mac devices as they show up as AirPlay displays and Speakers should you choose to use them.

  • Siri Shortcuts: Siri Shortcuts get a massive update as it gets introduced to MacOS. You can use automations, customised Shortcuts or even built in Shortcuts easily with a single click! Automator is being phased out in favour of Shortcuts, so support for it will be rolled back slowly.

  • Safari Redesign: The Safari browser has been redesigned with speed in mind. The Address Bar now has a responsive, new look that carries over to iPad as well. It also introduces Tab Groups which are collections of Web Pages that are shared between your devices. It also now supports extensions on iPhone and iPad.

The address bar now is placed on the tabs themselves, giving users more Vertical Space to view their websites.

Along with these macOS specific updates, updates to some iPadOS apps also carry over, like the Quick Notes function and the Spatial Audio Playback(only on M1-equipped devices).

Overall, macOS Monterey seems to be more of an incremental upgrade, but it brings welcome features to the Operating System, and I cannot wait to get my hands on it!
