OnePlus Nord 2 5G coming July 22, major change to OnePlus' policies?
OnePlus Nord 2 to launch on July 22nd, coming with a 6.43-inch 90Hz AMOLED panel, Dimensity 1200AI SOC, a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor and a 4500maH battery.
OnePlus CEO, Pete Lau has just tweeted out the launch date for the OnePlus Nord 2 5G.
OnePlus is a company that is always on the news cycle. Being fundamentally different from companies like Samsung and Apple, everything they do is widely publicized. Recently, however, OnePlus has been attracting a lot of negative attention through their practices and business decisions, and one amongst these is the confirmation of the OnePlus Nord 2.
The OnePlus Nord was a return to form for OnePlus, and the Nord 2 is no different, but it deviates from the very fundamentals of a OnePlus device.
OnePlus devices, historically, have always run on Qualcomm's Snapdragon SOCs, however, OnePlus has issued a joint press release with MediaTek, confirming that the Nord 2 5G will be powered by the Dimensity 1200 AI 5G processor.
OnePlus has worked with MediaTek to offer various AI-based improvements to the chipset on the Nord 2 and hence christened it with the AI branding. However, considering how the Hasselblad partnership went for the OnePlus 9 series, we would not expect any significant performance improvements from the SOC.
The manufacturer promises improvements like SDR-to-HDR conversion for content, standard definition to HD conversion for video, smarter automatic brightness, live HDR effects for video recording, and the ability to recognize up to twenty-two photo scenarios. OnePlus also notes the ability to play games like Brawl Stars at a high refresh rate, hinting at a high refresh rate screen.
According to the prevalent rumours, the rest of the phone is compelling, but with the recent announcement of the codebase for ColorOS and OxygenOS being combined, we expect the novelty for OOs to wear out, however, only time can tell.
OnePlus Nord 2 Specifications
Nord 2 5G will likely pack a 6.43-inch 90Hz AMOLED panel with a punch-hole selfie camera on the front. The rear will boast a triple camera setup including a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide lens (possibly), and a 2MP macro lens. Moreover, you will have a bigger 4,500mAh battery onboard and Android 11-based OxygenOS. It launches on July 22nd, and we cannot wait to see how well OOs runs on the Dimensity 1200AI SOC.
