Snapdragon 898 Rumour Roundup!
Whilst the current-flagship Snapdragon SOC hasn't yet disappeared off of the news cycles due to the Overheating woes, the San-Diego based semi-conductor manufacturing company has started work on their next generation Flagship SOC, namely, the Snapdragon 898.
Based on a leak, the next generation Snapdragon SOC will have a few definitive feature and performance upgrades. The system-on-chip will reportedly run at 3.09GHz, possibly using an Arm Cortex-X2 primary core. That is a step up from the 3GHz 888 Plus, let alone the 2.84GHz of the original 888, and doesn’t factor in the performance improvements that come with the new X2 design.
Similar to previous designs the 898 is powered by the big.LITTLE design standard, and it wouldn't be wrong to assume it will utilise the Cortex-A710 for typical high-demand tasks and the Cortex-A510 for low-power use cases. It is also based on Samsung's 4nm process, which should provide an efficiency boost as well. Similar improvements to the Hexagon ISP and the Adreno GPUs are also expected.
While it seems to be a remarkable up-step when it comes to theoretical performance, we cannot be sure of anything else like the thermals unless it features in any device, which won't be until 2022.
