The NVIDIA RTX 3080 Ti is Here, and You Won't Get It!
Updated: Jun 4, 2021
Since the start of the pandemic, GPU shortage has taken over the world. GPUs originally priced at ₹40,000 are selling for almost ₹150,000 or even more! Last fall, NVIDIA launched the RTX 3070 and the RTX 3080. And to date, there are thousands of potential customers who haven't got their hands on either of them yet. NVIDIA kept pushing more cards throughout the rest of 2020 and 2021, including the RTX 3060 Ti and the RTX 3060. But all of them are weapons-grade un-obtanium.
At this point, the only GPU that you would find in MSRP is a GT 710. And, it's better to call that a display adapter these days.
Amidst all this shortage, there is news that NVIDIA would announce the RTX 3080 Ti and probably, an RTX 3070 Ti this May 31st, i.e. tomorrow. And as far leaks go, they would hit the market June 10th, only if scalpers aren't at action yet again.
A Re-Used Cooling Design
According to the leaks from the video card archive videocardz.com, NVIDIA seems to have re-used the cooling design of the RTX 3080 Founder's Edition into its new RTX 3080 Ti FE.
The 3080 Ti is Set to Rival the 3090?
With the launch of the RTX 3080 Ti, NVIDIA seems to start a competition with itself. While all three of the RTX 3090, the RTX 3080 and the RTX 3080 Ti packs the same GA102 GPU, the RTX 3080 Ti will feature 10,270 CUDA cores. That number is shy of the RTX 3090 by just 200.
The GeForce RTX 3080 Ti delivers up to 12GB of GDDR6X memory that adheres to a 19 Gbps memory clock. This memory operates across a 384-bit memory interface, meaning we get a maximum theoretical memory bandwidth of up to 912.4 GBps. That's 20% more bandwidth than a GeForce RTX 3080 and only 2.5% less than the GeForce RTX 3090.
Also, the number of RT cores, Tensor cores and texture units are supposed to be as much as the RTX 3090, if not completely equal. With 12GB of GDDR6X VRAM, this could be the only ground where the 3090 will keep a strong lead.
Although the official MSRP for the 3080 Ti isn't confirmed yet, we are expecting something around $1000 or almost ₹80,000. That is very competitive pricing, especially considering how close the 3080 Ti would be to the 3090, which costs almost double that of it, at ₹150,000.
