Recently Wombo, (yes the ones who made the software to animate your face to lipsync to songs) released Dream, a website/app to generate paintings based on your prompts and themes without any coding and here are my thoughts on it and some samples of their work.

So here are some samples

The one on left was prompted light and art style was synthwave (the results uhh kinda look weird lol) . The second prompt was Matrix and art style was HD (and results are interesting). While these were random words that came into my mind, here is a sample with default prompt of sunset cliffs with ukiyoe/fantasy art style and this definitely looks much better.

Who's this for?

In case you are not an artist and you want some quick art pieces for some reason (like decorating your house in the metaverse or even your real one, creating your own nft etc. without coding or going through complex processes) this can be a great tool. Or in case you are an artist hunting for inspiration, this can be of great use in my opinion (but since I am not one, I cant say if this is a great way to get inspiration lol).

Opinion on AI art and Dream

In my opinion, dream has a long way to go to become good enough to replace artists or make one's work indistinguishable from an actual artist's but I think we are getting somewhere where we can use custom presets of dream to make paintings that look good. As for AI generated art, recent developments in GAN (generative adversarial network) have made AI art an actual possibility and in case you are really curious I would suggest you to read about GAN art to learn more about how AI might change the world of art forever.
