The AMOLED display is a type of flat-panel display with thin, self-emissive organic light-emitting diodes. These are the ones that you see in today's smartphones and smartwatches.

Why are AMOLED's so popular?

AMOLED displays use a mixture of red, green, blue and white light to create every color you can imagine. This creates deep blacks which look good regardless of ambient lighting conditions or viewing angle. The high contrast ratio helps make for better virtual experiences as well as improved visibility when using the devices around in daylight or artificial light sources. AMOLED display is most advanced display technology available today. It is also the display technology that most closely replicates the human eye's response to light.

What is an AMOLED display made up of?

AMOLED displays are made up of a series of tiny subpixels, each capable of emitting light at different intensities, and switching them off during periods where they are not needed. Millions of these sub-pixels can be arranged into RGB pixel sections that can produce millions of colors simultaneously; this makes them more color efficient than LCD screens with their limited number of subpixels.
