Design your own avatar for multiple games and apps at once

3D Avatars have rose in prominence in the past few years because of improvements in tech, higher quality games, adoption of remote work and the rise of V-Tubers but one common issue in almost all of the current 3D avatar development offerings is that it works with one game or a few restricted games/tools but this one is different due to which one really good skin can't be used in another app/game, in this article we will talk about Ready Player Me hub which solves this exact problem. Plus seeing the rise of the term metaverse in the past few weeks I thought it was a good time for me to help you become metaverse ready :)

How to setup

  • The setup process is pretty simple, you just need to log in by giving your email id and they will give you a code, then you are good to go.

  • Post that they will ask you whether you want a full body avatar (optimized for non vr device games/apps) or half body avatar (Optimized for VR games, which is also most of the games in the supported games list as of writing the article).

  • Post which you can either take a selfie of yourself or design a custom avatar using their templates, here is a quick view on one of the templates I used to setup my avatar (I made absolutely no changes to it so that you could get an idea of what they offer)

That's cool but where can I use this?

Right now the program is pretty young and it's difficult to comment on its future but it has a few big names like VrChat, Animaze (for video calls, streaming), MeetinVR and Immersed (for meetings in virtual reality). Plus it has plans for avatars designed in the app to be sold off as NFT's, hence showing some interesting possibilities for the future. Also in case you are a developer you might want to try this tool for your own game or app by checking it out at this link - https://readyplayer.me/developers Also there is a chance this app might be more and more useful as time passes because of the increasing interest in Metaverse by a lot of major companies like Facebook and Microsoft (more on that in a future article) could lead to a larger requirement in tools like this one.

That's it from my side for this quick blog let me know your feedback for this one by tweeting @kinetechblog or commenting over here.
